In 1976, one man.. a single man, by the name of Stephen Johnson had a idea that he soon put into motion. He decided to start a trash business, believing there would be decent money to be made. Little did he know, his days were soon to become very busy. He ran a residential trash route four days a week and did a recycling route on the fifth day. As his name became more popular folks soon called him to help clean out basements, attics, garages, and old sheds. He was asked to move different items, or to haul something to another location. The workload, continued to increase.
During the year 2000, Steve suffered a severe heart attack that almost cost him his life.
He endured a triple bypass, a hospital stay and lots of doctor visits. Steve, knowing the trash route had to be done, asked his son Charles to help him while he recovered. Now Charles was a logger. He worked daily in the woods but didn’t hesitate to put his livelihood on hold, temporarily, to help his father while he recovered.
A year into recovery, Steve stated he wasn’t going to be able to continue with the business he had begun. He propositioned Charles about buying it from him and continuing with it. After some thought, Charles agreed, and the next generation and expansion began. Johnson’s Refuse and Lawn Care was formed.
Charles ran the trash route for many years, expanding the residential route and bought mini roll off boxes for household, real estate and building contractor cleanouts. His customers continued to grow and the routes grew larger, however, his heart always belonged to the outdoors, the woods. He yearned to continue logging. After some thought and discussions, his son CJ was soon on board. CJ took over the trash route and cleanouts and Charles was back in the woods, where his potential could be pushed to the fullest.
Many of the trash customers asked if mowing lawns was a part of the services provided, and at that time, it wasn’t. In the spring of 2005, Johnson’s Lawn Service started and has continued to expand yearly. None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for our fantastic customers, their word of mouth and the refer a friend program we offer.
